A Uniquely Alaskan Bike Ride!

There are not many places in this world I can think of where one can ride his or her bike right up to the face of a glacier. Mendenhall Glacier is one of those few places, and we are very fortunate that it happens to be in our backyard. Here, Mattheus Tempel of Juneau rides his bike on Mendenhall Lake near the terminus of Mendenhall Glacier, with huge seracs looming in the background.

Sue Oliphant - This is an absolutely astonishing photograph. I can’t stop looking at it. How close were you to the rider and to the glacier face? How close to the face was the rider? And how did you keep the whole photo in such perfect focus and composition? I love your work. Thank you so much for sharing them.
