Life On The Edge – Extreme Adventures by Troy Henkels

One of my favorite images I took in Antarctica was chosen to be the cover photo for my friend and fellow Alaskan Troy Henkels’ new book ‘Life on the Edge’. I took the photo after paddling into an ice cave inside an iceberg while Troy was ice climbing on the edge of the cave. I initially met Troy in Nome in 2005 after his unsuccessful attempt to cross the Bering Strait in the winter on skis, and we both sailed to Antarctica as part of the ‘In the wake of the Belgica’ expedition in the winter of 2007/2008. Troy, who lives in Eagle River, has always impressed me with his high level of skills in the outdoors (he can do almost everything from hang-gliding to kitboarding), but more importantly he is an incredible team player and a wonderful down to earth human being. I look forward to reading his book that is now available on Amazon.com.
