Inside The Glacial World Of The Mendenhall Glacier

It’s been a while since Doug Sturm and I explored some of the ice caves inside the Mendenhall Glacier, so yesterday we packed our climbing gear and trekked across the frozen Mendenhall Lake to the lateral moraine of the glacier. It was hard to believe how much ice had melted since my last visit here in the spring. We spend several hours poking around in this magical blue world of ice, photographing and just being in awe. Above, Doug looks for a unique angle to capture the beauty of the cave. Below is yours truly in action – thanks for the shot and a great day, Doug!
